Daxor Announces that Fresno Heart and Surgical Hospital in Fresno, CA Purchases Blood Volume Analyzer (BVA-100)

New York, NY - Daxor Corporation (NYSE Amex:DXR), a medical instrumentation and biotechnology company, today announced that Fresno Heart and Surgical Hospital in Fresno, California has purchased a Blood Volume Analyzer (BVA-100) to assist with the diagnosis and treatment of heart failure patients.

Daxor's Blood Volume Analyzer is already in use at Fresno's Heart and Surgical Hospital in an effort to provide state-of-the-art care for patients suffering from heart failure. Blood volume measurement in the treatment of heart failure enables physicians to treat patients with more precise doses of medications. Previous studies have shown that heart failure patients with normal blood volumes have much better survival than patients with unrecognized blood volume excess. Fresno Heart and Surgical Hospital will be offering blood volume testing to patients throughout the Central Valley region.

The treatment of Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) is a major Medicare expense for patients over 65 years of age, who are frequently readmitted to the hospital to receive treatment for their symptoms. Medicare is currently evaluating whether or not to withhold reimbursement for any CHF hospital readmissions which occur within 30 days of the previous hospital discharge. If the new Medicare regulations are implemented, they could have a significant negative economic impact on hospitals since nearly 25% of heart failure patients are currently readmitted to the hospital within 30 days of discharge. Such regulations would provide a strong economic incentive for hospitals to provide CHF treatments which avoid incomplete treatment and inappropriate early discharge, and which are instead effective over the long-term.

Other leading medical institutions that have purchased the Blood Volume Analyzer BVA-100 include the National Institutes of Health, the Mayo Clinic, the Cleveland Clinic, NYU Medical Center, the North Shore Long Island Jewish Hospital and the Queens Medical Center of Hawaii. Daxor Corporation manufactures and markets the BVA-100, the only FDA approved semi-automated Blood Volume Analyzer. The BVA-100 is used in conjunction with Volumex™, Daxor's single use diagnostic kit.

The Fresno Heart and Surgical Hospital, which opened in 2003, is a 48-bed hospital which is entirely devoted to cardiovascular and surgical care. It is owned by Community Medical Centers, and provides world-class medical care to residents of California's Central Valley. Fresno Heart and Surgical Hospital has received several distinctions from Health Grades, a leading independent health care ratings organization. The hospital was given a 5-star rating for treatment of myocardial infarctions (heart attacks) and for bariatric surgery. It was also given the Outstanding Patient Experience Award for two consecutive years, rating it among the top 5% in the nation for patient experience based on patient survey data.
